MPORTANT:
Password-protect all mailboxes in your voice
processor, including 998 and 999. If you don't,
a hacker can mess up your system and make
expensive calls. Also, block calling out from
the jack(s) where the voice processor is plugged
in (programs 605 & 606 for KX-TD308, 816, 1232,
KX-TA1232; and programs 405-407 for the
KX-TA624 and 824). If you need to have pager
notification, use toll restriction instead of
disabling all outgoing calls. The boss should
assign all of the passwords; and hide the list
in two safe places. If you've been hacked, check
the list of mailboxes, and eliminate any that
shouldn't be there. |
TIP: Instead of mounting your voice processor
next to the phone system control unit, you can mount it near one of your
computers, so it's easy to make programming changes. It won't take
up much space, and the wiring is very simple -- much simpler than
extending a serial or USB cable 50 feet. You can probably use some
spare wire pairs you already have in the walls. With a new TVA voice processor,
you can program through your LAN, so it can go
almost anywhere.
